International expert on fruit varieties, Uzbekistan


The Technical Assistance on Horticulture Marketing in Uzbekistan is part of the Horticulture Development Project, financed by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), with funds from the European Union.
This technical assistance is expected to start around February 2020, with a duration of 48 months each (4 years).

The expert will work closely (duration: 6 months) with local research institutes and will travel to all project regions collecting detailed information about the local varieties of fruits  available in the country. He will have to provide the final report:

•Detailed list of locally grown varieties indicating if they are registered in the local approved register of varieties for commercial production;

•Detailed description of local varieties that would correspond to the modern fresh produce market demands while performing well in the local climate with justification of such conclusions;

•Analyses of local varieties with potential at the international seed market;

•Roadmap of actions for improved sales and cultivation of perspective local varieties on the market of Uzbekistan;

•Roadmap of actions for promotion of perspective Uzbek varieties on the foreign markets with indication of where these seeds or varieties could be sold and how to protect property rights;

•List of internationally recognized varieties that are currently no produce but could, according to the consultants, perform well in the local climate and be suitable for local market conditions.

  • Relevant degree (Master in horticulture/agronomy (or related discipline));
  • More than 10 years of experience in long-term value chain development projects as a fruit specialist (specific knowledge of melons is an asset), preferably on WB-funded projects;
  • At least 3 similar mission (analysis of local varieties, roadmap of actions for promotion of varieties on the foreign country, etc.);
  • Experience working in value chain development in Central Asian countries;
  • Excellent English speaking and writing (Russian is an asset).
