General professional experience
• Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience working with government ministries
or agencies, and with private sector organisations and companies, and with international
partners in the context of development cooperation, in the tourism or natural resources
management sectors.
• Must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience as Team Leader.
• Must have a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in programme
management related to development cooperation (donor funded programmes aimed at
contributing to the eradication of poverty, economic, social and sustainable development and
environmental protection) in the tourism or natural resources management sectors.
• Must have a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in providing technical
assistance for public authorities or agencies in developing countries on tourism development
policy, planning, management, preferably with a focus on ecotourism.
• Previous experience managing EU funded projects is an asset;
Specific professional experience
• Must have demonstrable experience in conducting research. I.e. provide a record of success
in at least 3 research studies that briefly explain the purpose, methods, results, and
implications of the study, as well as the challenges and limitations that were faced. Those
with experience in tourism or ecotourism research will have an added advantage,
• Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience implementing tourism and/or natural
resource related projects benefiting local communities,
• Must have experience in any of these areas and complementary to KE2: ecotourism standards
and certification; or in tourism statistics.
• Experience of working in Southern African Development Community (SADC) or East
African Community (EAC) tourism destinations is an asset.
