Provision of technical assistance to review and improve the Catch and Effort Data Collection and Recording System (CEDCRS) and deliver basic training in stock assessment (2013)
The purpose of this assignment is to strengthen the capacity of fisheries officers and researchers to manage Ethiopia’s inland fisheries by improving data collection and management systems.
The specific objectives of the project are to:
1. Review the CEDCRS in Ethiopia recommending future changes to the system;
2. Draft a trainers’ manual on basic fish stock assessment;
3. Train 10 fisheries officers and researchers on fish stock assessment.

Review and update of the Nile Perch Fishery Management Plan (NPFMP) for Lake Victoria (2013)
The purpose of this project was to strengthen the capacity of the Lake Victoria Fisheries Organisation (LVFO) to manage the Nile perch fishery on Lake Victoria in a sustainable and equitable manner by:
- Reviewing the Nile Perch Fishery Management Plan (NPFMP) 2009-2014 for Lake Victoria, and updating it in light of activities conducted and recent survey results;
- Validating the revised NPFMP through a Regional Stakeholders’ Validation Workshop (RSVW).

Technical assistance to support the value chain development component of the Som-PREP II Programme, focused on enterprise development and job creation through improvements along the gum/resin and fisheries value chains. The services provided include:
(a) Support to relevant Government of Somaliland Ministries and capacity building on key issues related to the value chains.
(b) Improving the processes and practices of local businesses.
(c) Building the capacity of industry associations by improving their ability to represent industry stakeholders.
(d) Conducting a census of gum producing trees and ownership.
